FAQS

Here are some things we think you might want to ask. If we missed anything, scroll down to the ‘Contact’ section and get in touch directly with your question.
CAN I JUST TURN UP? CAN I SIT INSIDE?
You certainly can! We have always had a high demand for sit-in dining, so if you're after a table at our New Street restaurant, you're strongly advised to book (see the big green button at the top of the page). However, we'll always seat walk-in customers where we can. Please of course also refer to the latest COVID guidelines regarding group sizes/households etc.
DO YOU SERVE ALCOHOL?
Yes! BTC: New Street has an  ever-changing alcoholic drinks menu including wines, beers, ciders, spirits, as well as non-alcoholic equivalents! BTC: Bake A Difference does not have an alcohol license, as very few people have ever requested a glass of Chardonnay with their chocolate brownie...
ARE WE ALLOWED TO VISIT IF WE'RE NOT VEGAN?
Of course! We're specifically here doing what we're doing to encourage more & more people to make vegan choices, so we definitely welcome customers who are not yet vegan.
HOW MUCH NOTICE DO YOU NEED TO MAKE BIRTHDAY CAKES?
As much as you can give us. The cake diary is a funny thing & can get completely booked up for random days in over a month's time & yet be completely clear for several days of the current week. 7 days is almost always enough, & we can sometimes squeeze one in with 24 hours notice. But just tell us as soon as you know; we don't insist upon payment until the day it's delivered, if that helps!
WHAT ALLERGIES/INTOLERANCES DO YOU CATER FOR?
As many as possible! Obviously there's no dairy, egg or fish in any of our food. Additionally, we label all of our items that are gluten-free (or can be made gluten-free) on our webshop & menu, as well as items containing nuts. We're very happy to detail other allergens & ingredients that may affect you upon request & are also very happy to make special batches of items so that you are able to enjoy them, wherever possible.

In short, let us know how we can make our service as inclusive as possible, & we'll do our very best to do so!
WHY DON'T YOU SERVE MILK? THAT DOESN'T HURT A COW, RIGHT?
We do serve milk! We serve loads of different milks- soya, almond, oat, coconut…just not milks taken from animals. And as for the production of dairy not hurting cows, we used to think so too. If it’s something you’re interested in, then we’d encourage you to research it further. Right now, for brevity’s sake, let’s just keep it at this: We think that if it’s not necessary for us to consume an animal’s flesh, milk, eggs, honey etc, it’s probably much better for everyone’s sake, if we simply didn’t. It certainly can't hurt to give it a go, right?
WHY IS THERE SO MUCH 'FAKE MEAT' & 'FAKE CHEESE' ON THE MENU?
At BTC, our mission is to normalise veganism. How do we try & do that? We take our customers' favourite meals that they 'normally' eat & show that, as a vegan, you can have them exactly the same...just without the animal being involved! After all, we've never met anyone who went vegan because they just didn't like the taste of meat or cheese.- it's the morals they object to! Why do we still use the animal product names? Why are sausages called sausages?! Why not call them "food in the form of a cylindrical length of minced pork or other filling, encased in a skin"?! We use the original names of these products, just because it's the closest easiest cultural reference point. You can of course rest assured in the knowledge that no animals have been used or involved in the production of your food. Don't get us wrong, we still love the wholesome wholefoody plant-based goodness & you'll still have several options for this sort of lovely fayre on our menu, at all times. However, our mission is clear & making veganism normal & easy to access will always take priority over anything else; so, for as long as 'fake meat' & 'fake cheese' are the the most popular items on our menu, we'll keep putting them on the menu.
